About the Project
Few characters are as ubiquitous with espionage as James Bond - except maybe his cars. In March of 2024, Bond In Motion opened at the International Spy Museum. This special temporary exhibit was the first to be implemented in the Museum’s new L’Enfant Plaza location and required close collaboration with all Museum departments. As part of the Marketing & Communications team, I played a role in planning and executing the months-long marketing plan. In addition to supporting brand management under the creative direction of Emily Coletta, I contributed to the drumroll on social media leading up to the exhibition's opening: a teaser campaign, countdown animation, and ticket announcement.
Bond In Motion was created in collaboration with EON Productions and The Ian Fleming® Foundation, with support from Amazon MGM Studios. 007 and related James Bond Indicia © 1962-2024 Danjaq, LLC and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. 007 and related James Bond Trademarks are trademarks of Danjaq, LLC. IG Teaser
To build the energy for this exhibition, we initiated a singular social media takeover and a few weeks of “going dark.” The images were slowly posted on IG, creating a slow-drip reveal.
Tickets Available
To cap off the initial social media push for the exhibition, a banner was created featuring the Bond In Motion logo and our hero car, the Aston Martin Vanquish, coinciding with the announcement of ticket availability. This three-part banner will be pinned to the top of our Instagram grid as an ongoing advertisement for the exhibition.
Countdown Posts & Animation
After the dust settled on the teaser, we began the countdown to the exhibition’s opening day. I developed an engaging graphic that could highlight a new vehicle every day and harken back to the golden era of both movies and, some would argue, Bond. A corresponding image was posted to our Stories every day of the countdown, with the animation being shared to wrap things up on the final day. Vertical and horizontal variants of the animation were developed to suit various channels.
Conclusion
Bond In Motion has been a wildly successful installment for the International Spy Museum, overdelivering on ticket sale predictions by more than 120%. This success is a testament to the collaboration between all departments at the Museum, the cooperation of EON Productions, and the contributions of various external vendors. The Marketing & Communications team faced tight deadlines and the challenge of adhering to strict brand guidelines. Despite these parameters, we developed a marketing strategy that sold out the first several weeks. In addition, the Creative team supported the Exhibits team directly in creating and implementing the exhibition.
Guests of all persuasions, from casual Bond fans to hardcore car enthusiasts, have noted it as a reason for their visit and highlight of their trip to Washington, DC.
