Doing Good Work

Over the past eight years, I’ve worked with in-house multidisciplinary creative teams to support nonprofits' marketing and communication needs.

The unique challenges of working in-house have made me a well-rounded professional, capable of producing excellent work while navigating interdepartmental relationships. My favorite projects involve deep research, extensive ideation, and creative solutions. I love gamifying project management, utilizing tools like Asana to make getting work done as much fun as it is satisfying. I firmly believe graphic designers are responsible for using their talents to further messages that matter, and I hope my work makes the world a little brighter.

When not designing, you can find me sipping a seasonal latte, exploring with my trusty Fujifilm X-T20, playing strategy board games with my husband, doing a deep dive on a thoroughly random topic that piques my interest (the anti-lawn movement has been my latest fixation), or daydreaming about my next adventure.

What People Are Saying

“It’s striking how much more modern and inviting the new design [Emily made] is … Transportation needs have changed, and … we’re redesigning our service to meet that regional need… this rebranding helps to demonstrate that metamorphosis.”

— Mike Whitten, MTA Executive Director

“Emily is a talented and articulate graphic designer who developed a re-branded logo and look for StoryRunners so that we could more effectively tell our story. I wholeheartedly recommend her to you.”

— Mark Steinbach, StoryRunners Director

“Working with Emily was a delight, but more importantly, the final product was outstanding: considered, deeply researched, and executed with just the right combination of panache and restraint.”

— Andrew hammond, Spy Museum Historian

Q&A

  • Someone handed me a point-and-shoot camera as I was heading out the door for my first sleep-away camp. One early morning, I took a picture of a tiny snail. The camera gave the image a macro effect, and I could see the slime trail glistening in the sunlight! That was so incredible to me. I didn’t know it, but that little moment of whimsy inspired a trajectory for my whole creative career.

  • I love researching and presenting projects! Building a strong case for why certain design decisions were made and communicating that to stakeholders is so rewarding. My younger brother once told me I should be a teacher because I’m “really good at lecturing”… he later clarified that he meant I was good at explaining things. I guess I’ll take the compliment!

  • I’ve done so many fun and rewarding projects that I am proud of, but to be honest, the one I still can’t get over is the rebranding work I did with the MTA. Seeing a bus drive by with a logo you designed in the community you grew up in is so surreal.

  • I’m an East Coast girl, through and through. I grew up in the greater Boston area, and I’m obsessed with New England. I could wax poetic for literal hours about the virtues of the Northeast!

  • I wish I could drink it black, but I’m not quite strong enough. I love a vanilla latte, especially if it’s my first time trying a new local coffee shop! I gotta say, a lot of people think I’m a coffee snob, but the truth is I just drink a lot of coffee.
